DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday Aug 23rd for a practice session for the North GA Camera Club Council shootout. \nWe will start off the morning with a scavenger hunt style shooting exercise at Little Debbie Park and move into the Greenbriar Cove Community Center to review what the actual event entails. We will talk through technical and equipment hurdles\, lessons learned\, and review photos. \nThis is a great event for beginners through pros. \nBring your camera and a laptop/tablet/ipad (whatever you plan to edit with). \nRSVP to fieldtrips@chattanoogaphoto.org with your cell phone number by 21 August. We will also send you a link to a shared google drive to drop your images into during the event\, so please send whichever email address you use for that\, if you can. \nAnyone can join\, you do not have to commit to attending the event in October. SUMMARY:Perseids Meteor Shower Peak Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar — the Perseids hit their peak the night of August 12–13\, and this year’s forecast is about as good as it gets: a new moon means no competing light in the sky\, just meteors. \nJoin us at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge Observation Platform starting around 1:30 a.m. to capture the show. This is one of the best dark-sky spots in the area\, and under a moonless night\, the Perseids should really put on a display. \nNew to night photography? No problem. This field trip is beginner-friendly\, and we’ve built in a warm-up session to make sure you’re ready: August 9 (afternoon) — Daytime location scouting and equipment familiarization. Exact time TBD based on weather. Come get comfortable with your gear before the late night! \nAugust 12–13 (overnight) — The main event. Link-up at approximately 1:30 a.m. at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge Observation Platform. \nWhat to bring: \n\nA camera and tripod Interval-timer shooting capability\, or a wired/wireless remote shutter release\nA wide-angle lens if you have one (14–24mm or 10–14mm is ideal) — but bring what you’ve got\, we’ll make it work\nHeadlamp with redlight capability\n\nThe primary shooting location is a short walk from the parking area. Details will be shared at the August 9th familiarization session. \nPlease RSVP by August 7th if you are coming to the warm-up or August 10th to communications@chattanoogaphoto.org. SUMMARY:Field Trip - Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Saturday bird walk at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur\, Alabama on January 3rd at 9:00am CST. The walks are each Saturday beginning December 6 through February 28 (excluding December 27 and January 10). Please meet at the outdoor classroom in the Visitor Center parking lot to walk around the property and enjoy spotting some of the refuge’s resident winter birds\, including Sandhill Cranes and\, if we are lucky\, Endangered Whooping Cranes. Anyone is welcome to join this free event – registration is not required. Please remember to dress for the weather and bring a long lens if you have one. \nMary Jane and I will leave home at 6:00 am EST to arrive at the Cracker Barrel in Huntsville (2001 Drake Ave. SW) at 8:00 EST (7:00 CST). It is about 30 minutes to the NWR\, so that gives us an hour at the restaurant. \nIf you do not want to leave home so early\, the walk will finish about 10:00 CST and we will be hanging around to photograph more birds\, so join us. \nPlease let Martin and Mary Jane know if you plan to meet them there. Email them at fieldtrips@chattanoogaphoto.org.
