DESCRIPTION:Presentation on January 15\, 2026 at 7:00 pm via Zoom – Zoom Link to Follow \nAlan Ross is an internationally respected master photographer\, printer and educator who honed his vision and technique while working side-by-side with Ansel Adams as his full-time photographic assistant. \nFor Alan Ross\, photography has been very much a kind of language…a way to express who he is\, how he thinks and how he responds to the world around him. He has used this “language of light” for over 60 years to articu-late those thoughts and feelings he is often not able to put into words. \nRoss will share highlights (and images!) of his career\, from his early days as an assistant in an advertising studio to his time with Ansel Adams to his glob-al adventures sharing his knowledge of\, and passion for\, fine art photography. \nHe’ll also paint a picture of the legendary Adams as only someone who worked side-by-side with him can. Using his own personal photographs of Adams working in the field\, in the darkroom and at home\, personal notes and letters from master to apprentice\, and anecdotes and recollections from his nearly six years as Adams’ full-time photographic assistant\, Ross will share his experiences of Adams as an artist\, mentor and friend. \nRoss was integrally involved with Adams’ books\, teaching in Yosemite and the creation of fine prints. He was personally selected by Adams to be the exclusive printer of the Yosemite Special Edition Photograph negatives\, an assignment he has enjoyed for over 50 years! Ross makes each print by hand from Adams’ original negatives using traditional darkroom techniques. \nFollowing his tenure with Adams\, Ross operated a successful commercial photography studio in San Francisco for 12 years\, where he enjoyed work-ing on projects ranging from world-wide campaigns for the Bank of America to landscape murals for the National Park Service. \nRoss relocated to visually captivating Santa Fe in 1993\, where he enjoys pursuing his own art\, teaching\, and writing articles and blogs sharing his vast knowledge of the art and craft of fine art photography. \nAlan is also a consummate and dedicated photographic educator who inspires professionals and ama-teurs alike as they work to realize and refine their photographic voice. \nHis photography hangs in collections\, galleries and museums around the world\, including the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum\, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art\, Huntington Library and the Center for Creative Photography

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Saturday bird walk at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur\, Alabama on January 3rd at 9:00am CST. The walks are each Saturday beginning December 6 through February 28 (excluding December 27 and January 10). Please meet at the outdoor classroom in the Visitor Center parking lot to walk around the property and enjoy spotting some of the refuge’s resident winter birds\, including Sandhill Cranes and\, if we are lucky\, Endangered Whooping Cranes. Anyone is welcome to join this free event – registration is not required. Please remember to dress for the weather and bring a long lens if you have one. \nMary Jane and I will leave home at 6:00 am EST to arrive at the Cracker Barrel in Huntsville (2001 Drake Ave. SW) at 8:00 EST (7:00 CST). SUMMARY:Creative Floral Portraits "Hands-On" Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Hazel is the owner of Meredith Images\, an expert in photography craftsmanship\, award-winning photographer\, teacher\, speaker\, workshop leader and highly respected competition judge. You can view her work on her website at https://meredithimages.com. \nHazel will guide participants through how to add drama and creativity to their floral images with the addition of textures and the use of plug-in software. Get a subtle effect with one texture\, or go wild with two or more! Learn how to choose textures; how to blend them with your images; and how to mask off certain areas. Learn how to add a subtle vignette to your photos as well as creative borders. Hazel will also demonstrate a few of her favorite plug-ins\, i.e. the Nik Collection\, Smart Photo Editor and JixiPix desktop apps. \nThe week prior to the workshop\, Ms. Meredith will send a list of the software she will use during the workshop\, and the participants will be able to download a trial version if they don’t already own the products. If they don’t wish to download the software\, they can watch that portion of the demo and decide if they wish to obtain the software later. The day of the workshop Hazel will supply a USB flash drive to each participant with the images and textures that will be used in the projects\, along with detailed notes so they can replicate the projects at home and get familiar with the techniques discussed. \nThe workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday May 18\, 2024\, at St. John’s United Methodist Church at 3921 Murray Hills Dr\, Chattanooga\, Tennessee. Participants need to bring note-taking materials\, laptop (suggested to follow along\, but not required) and a bottle of water. \nThe cost of the workshop is $79 per person. DESCRIPTION:Professional Photographer\, Artist and PSC President Lin Blackwell-Prabish will instruct a class on beginning photography. Advanced members of the club will also be on hand to assist attendees with questions about their specific camera models. \n  \nThis class is for those who need help learning how to use their camera\, need one-on-one assistance with their cameras and have questions about how to capture the images they want. Attendees need to bring their camera with a lens and fully charged battery\, their camera’s manual (or an electronic device to access their manual online)\, a bottle of water and note-taking materials (paper & pen). The class is FREE! Seating is limited\, so sign-up early!
