By the time you read this Christmas will be over and we’ll be in a new year. It was kind of amazing how fast last year went, Hopefully, this one will last a little longer. I’m sure you noticed the fantastic increase in emails last month with everybody trying to sell you something. The same thing happened with photography web sites also. All my favorite instructors had bunches of stuff to sell and instruction seemed to fall by the wayside. Fortunately, I was still able to dig a few gems out of the retail binging going on.
First up is Blake Rudis of f64 Academy. If you remember from some of my previous articles, Blake is a former
painter and his focus is all aspects of color and tone. Here’s an interesting article titled “Using Selective Color to get better tones in Photoshop”

Sticking with the color theme, here’s an article from Greg Benz titled “Extract Insane Color from Your RAW Files in Lightroom with Camera Calibration.”

Winter is upon us. Having spent most of my life living around Chicago I’m very familiar with all the trappings of winter; snow, ice, sleet, hail, freezing rain, blustering winds, below zero temperatures and impossible driving conditions. I’m always taken aback somewhat when people refer to these things as a “Winter Wonderland”. Back home we referred to it as White S*#%. I’m also in shock when I hear people wanting to go out and photograph in the snow. Oh well, we all have our strange desires and wishes. For those of you who haven’t lived through 96 inches of snow in a month or had to shovel snow in a below zero wind chill, here’s an article about winter photography. It’s by John Maxymuik and was featured on Picture Correct/

For those of you want to stay in the house where it’s warm, here’s an article on Photoshop Café by Colin Smith that will let you sit by your computer, playing with your old images for hours. It’s on one of the new tools in Photoshop 2020. It’s titled: “How to Master the Split Warp Tool in Photoshop 2020, Ultimate Guide. Bend Anything.

To wrap things up this month we’ll have a discussion of light and how the direction and elevation of light affects your images. It was published on Picture Correct by Rodger Lee and titled:” How to Capture Images with Depth and Form.”
